Magellan, a provider of GPS devices for vehicles, outdoor and mobile navigation, announced its partnership with CCI Entertainment, a family programing production and distribution company in Canada. The strategic partnership leverages CCI Entertainment’s latest transmedia children’s property called ‘GeoFreakZ’ which includes a series of televised minisodes, a Massive Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) and a slate of live events all based on the popular worldwide pastime sport of geocaching.   Magellan and CCI Entertainment, in partnership with Groundspeak, Inc. (owners of, have launched the first initiative in their partnership, a Canadian geocaching program called GeoFreakZ GeoTrails.  Future plans for Magellan and CCI Entertainment’s GeoFreakZ include collaboration on consumer products, retail promotions, and expanded live event offerings in Canada as well as internationally.

To participate in the free GeoFreakZ GeoTrails events at designated Parks Canada locations, people check out a Magellan eXplorist GC GPS receiver for the day to search for several hidden geocache containers throughout the park. As people find each hidden cache, they stamp a special ‘passport’ with a GeoFreakZ stamp. Participants who take photos of themselves discovering the caches are entered into a drawing to win a Magellan eXplorist GC device.  Participants also log their finds and communicate with other geocachers through Groundspeak’s geocaching registration site
